Matthew 5:1-12

In these words and phrases we learn how to care for people.   The Eight Beatitudes form the core of the Christian life.

As Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., writes in his Modern Catholic Dictionary, they are the “promises of happiness made by Christ to those who faithfully accept his teaching and follow his divine example.” While, as mentioned, we refer to those in Heaven as in a state of beatitude, the happiness promised in the Eight Beatitudes is not something to be found in the future, in our next life, but right here and now by those who live their lives in accordance with the will of Christ.

On This Day

Facebook has a feature called “On This Day,” it’s a flashback to the past, a year ago, three years ago, 6 years ago.

And, as only Facebook can do, it picks out the positive during that time frame.

Unfortunately, life can be ugly or hurtful.  And looking back a year, or three is not something most of us want to reflect on.  Why?   We have enough to get through in the day-to-day.  Human beings struggle.  So does a Christian.  We are not immune to heartache or bad memories.

Philippians 4:12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Hebrews 11: 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Less feelings, more Jesus.  Less worry, more prayer.  Less heartache, more healing. 

Courage

Courage roars.  Does it?  Sometimes it’s the still, small voice inside of us that wants to roar like a lion, but instead meows!

2 Chronicles 32:7  Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.
In the last four weeks I’ve witnessed a beautiful soul make some very hard decisions.  She stepped WAY out of her comfort zone to face her challenges head on.  She was courageous; scared, anxious, fearful, afraid of failure, but she was courageous.  As long as the beginning and end of your feelings include a positive — you’ll come out on top!
God asks us to walk in faith.  WALK COMPLETELY IN FAITH.  Not to waiver, not to say — “not today, Lord, I’ve got a lot on my plate.”  He wants it 100%, fearless, courageous, adamant!  He wants us strong and brave – because He is THERE.  All the time, He is never not there.  It’s usually us — trying to do it all on our own, that pushes Him away.
Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
