On This Day

Facebook has a feature called “On This Day,” it’s a flashback to the past, a year ago, three years ago, 6 years ago.

And, as only Facebook can do, it picks out the positive during that time frame.

Unfortunately, life can be ugly or hurtful.  And looking back a year, or three is not something most of us want to reflect on.  Why?   We have enough to get through in the day-to-day.  Human beings struggle.  So does a Christian.  We are not immune to heartache or bad memories.

Philippians 4:12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Hebrews 11: 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Less feelings, more Jesus.  Less worry, more prayer.  Less heartache, more healing.

Healing Pieces

At one time or another, we have begun the healing process.  Perhaps emotionally from a broken heart, or physically from a surgical procedure.  There are literally so many types of pain and hurt, there is no one cure.

I’ve been healing from a four-inch incision in my lower back.  Thanks to meds, I rarely have pain, and in its place, I find myself moody, offtrack and unable to “use my (kind) words.”  The truest rest I’ve found, is in my Savior.  He is after all; comforter, peacemaker, and “home” to those who believe in him.

When I feel sorry for myself or am frustrated at what I can’t do “right now,” I realize this is when I need to draw closer to God.  He isn’t pushing me away, I am doing that all by myself.

Psalm 23:2-3 He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength. He helps me do what honors him the most.
1 Peter 1:21 …..Now your faith and hope can rest in him alone.

And where you are, Lord — I am free.

Pieces of God’s Breaking Heart

Another shooting, today it’s in San Bernardino, California.  People with guns are killing people.

This isn’t about gun control, it’s not even about violence, it’s about the desire to love like Jesus.  To.  Love.  Like.  Jesus.

There aren’t exceptions for Jesus; He doesn’t pick and choose who to love, who to care for, who to forgive.  Bad guys with guns are right up there with social workers and teachers, office workers and babysitters.

If you ask God to break your heart-for what breaks His, be prepared for sorrow, grief, heartache and tragedy.  Nothing good is present in evil.  But out of evil, can come good.  Along with healing and forgiveness and peace.

We cannot imagine the incredible sadness God feels when He watches His creation destroying itself.  Some will say — God created the world, He is responsible for all of this.  I would say – yes, God created the world, people have been using free-will since Adam and Eve, making their own decisions, such as they are.

Deuteronomy 4:29

But you will also begin to search again for Jehovah your God, and you will find him when you search for him with all your heart and soul.
