Holy Week

What does the word “Easter” mean and does it have the same significance as “The Resurrection”?

According to Merriam-Webster:  Easter is a feast that commemorates Christ’s resurrection and is observed with variations of date due to different calendars on the first Sunday after the paschal full moon.

I’ve answered my own question!  Still, I think the word “Easter” in the minds of many, means bunny rabbits and baskets filled with candy, patent leather shoes, white gloves, floral dresses, and a big meal after church.

From Palm Sunday until a week later, there is much to be mindful of.  In a period of seven days, Jesus goes from being hero-like, a big parade complete with palm fronds, children waving and smiling — to Crucifixion, death, burial and then the big TA DA day; the big reveal you might say; roll the stone away and Jesus is gone.  He Has Risen!  Hallelujah!  But do we miss the “in-between”?

There is no exact way; it is what you believe and what is comfortable for you.  The following link is common throughout Catholic and Christian faiths.

How to observe Holy Week

Journey to Redemption

Easter Sunday has arrived in many parts of the world; where I live, it’s tomorrow.  The past few days have been incredibly moving for me.  Having grown up in a rather sedate Lutheran church, there were no “stations of the cross,” Good Friday services or much reflection on the sanctity of Holy Week.  We recognized the birth of Jesus, His Resurrection on the cross, the day He rose from the dead, and the Ascension.

Did these events take place so that we could affirm our faith?  The disciples were given the task of sharing Jesus’ word with the entire world; it may have been “mere Christianity” without the the death & resurrection of Jesus.

What does Holy Week, the heartache of death, the miracle of Resurrection, the Ascension into heaven to sit with God the Father Almighty, mean to you?  Mean FOR us?

Wonderful, Merciful Savior

By: Selah

Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh you rescue the souls of men

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost the way
Oh, we hopelessly lost the way

You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we’re falling before Your throne

Holy Week Pieces

This is the week of great miracle.  Jesus rode a donkey through Jerusalem to his final death.  Parts of the journey were lovely, palm branches waved in the air, coats laid on the ground, our version of a red carpet.  Hallelujahs shouted, prayers said, celebrations made.

The Last Supper

The people angered for justice to prevail.  Arguments had, angry voices demanding justice.

The cross.

The blood.

The finality.

Burdens carried to the cross.  Crown of thorns.  Blood.  Exhaustion.  Defeat.  Burial.  Mourning.  Great sadness.  Disbelief.  Sorrow.

HE LIVED.  HE DIED.  HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD.  HE LIVES.

The stone rolled away.  How?  Where is Jesus?  He has risen!!!  Our Lord reigns, loves, forgives, is exalted!!!
