Where Do You Find God?

I find God on a quiet day, in nature, the sound of wind always reminds me of Jesus.  As if He is whispering to me.  Also in my daily devotions, or wanderings in the bible.

Today “faith” was a dominant word in my day; it came reading Hebrews; all of the people who chose (not just obey) to walk in faith.  Abraham offered up his son (how awful a decision to make), the only thing Sarah ever wanted was a child and Moses, a grown man; preferred to suffer hardships than live within the walls of great wealth.

WHY?

3 John 1:3
It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

On This Day

Facebook has a feature called “On This Day,” it’s a flashback to the past, a year ago, three years ago, 6 years ago.

And, as only Facebook can do, it picks out the positive during that time frame.

Unfortunately, life can be ugly or hurtful.  And looking back a year, or three is not something most of us want to reflect on.  Why?   We have enough to get through in the day-to-day.  Human beings struggle.  So does a Christian.  We are not immune to heartache or bad memories.

Philippians 4:12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Hebrews 11: 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Less feelings, more Jesus.  Less worry, more prayer.  Less heartache, more healing. 

Holy Month

April is just around the corner and our holy month begins; Palm Sunday, Passover, Good Friday and Easter.  The death, burial and resurrection — the miracle that saved our life.

Do you believe?  That is all that is asked of us, to believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins.

People don’t like to see the image of Jesus nailed to the cross, or the crown of thorns on his head; but this is the reality.  Jesus was nailed to a cross, hands and feet, his sides were pierced and a crown of sharp thorns was not “placed” on his head, it was jammed into it.  Imagine the physical pain and anguish.  He made this awful sacrifice for us; to heal our wounds, forgive our sins and give us a life that is free and an end that is eternal.

Surely he has borne our sufferings, and carried our pains; yet we considered him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. Epiphany Pieces

In the endless battle to control paper in my home office, I came across this incredibly raw and honest “piece” (scrap) that fits right in with the spiritual path I am on at different times in my life.

The bigger circle was fighting me.  I gave in and pushed at the edges realizing this is what I do to get God to see my way.

I was working on a clay project from retreat last Fall.  It was a beginners class, the clay dried my skin out which in turn, took an act of congress to make me forget so I could forge ahead with what the clay might reveal to me.  Reveal it did.  Wow.

I still would rather do just about anything than work with clay (!!!) but it taught me about substance, what I want to learn on this journey called life.

Pieces of Grace

Psalm 34:1 I will praise the Lord no matter what happens. I will constantly speak of his glories and grace.
Psalm 84:11For Jehovah God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will he withhold from those who walk along his paths.
1 Corinthians 1:7 Now you have every grace and blessing; every spiritual gift and power for doing his will are yours during this time of waiting for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God’s grace is unmerited favor.  What does that really mean?  For me, it’s that no matter what I do, or don’t do or even overdo, God’s grace forgives, accepts and continues to love me.
It does not require perfection from me (as if!!!) it only requires an open and accepting heart.
We can turn away from God (I did — for many years), we can shake our fists at him (I did!), we can say we do not believe that Jesus died for the sins of many (including mine), but even with all of that garbage, that lack of grace in my life — God never gave up.  Never.  He was always here.  And now I live substantially with that grace, the forgiveness, most  of all — the love.

Pieces of Salvation

You start a conversation off with the word “salvation” and people run for the hills.  There are Christians, believers, followers, whatever term you wish to use that do not believe salvation is the only way to eternal life (it is!!)

I’m not here to tell you what you should believe, this blog and the book; “The Pieces” is merely a part of my journey to becoming more like Jesus, more whole, more faithful.

Recent “pieces” (thoughts, expressions) are bringing me to some very honest truths.  The word is speaking to me in ways that I fully understand and find to be doable in my life

Ephesians 4:1-4  ….I beg you—I, a prisoner here in jail for serving the Lord—to live and act in a way worthy of those who have been chosen for such wonderful blessings as these. Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each others faults because of your love. Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit and so be at peace with one another.

Salvation takes place once, sanctification is life changing; a transformation of spirit.  The Holy Spirit guides our life.  Everything we do, say, think, pray – should be done as a reflection of Jesus.

Pieces of Happenstance

Did you know that happenstance means “something that happens by chance?”  As bible-believing Christians, we don’t believe in luck, chance or coincidence.  We pray, hope and believe instead.

The word coincidence is used only once in the New Testament, and it was by Jesus Himself in the parable of the Good Samaritan. In Luke 10:31, Jesus said, “And by a coincidence a certain priest was going down in that way, and having seen him, he passed over on the opposite side.” The word coincidence is translated from the Greek word synkyrian, which is a combination of two words: sun and kurios. Sun means “together with,” and kurious means “supreme in authority.” So a biblical definition of coincidence would be “what occurs together by God’s providential arrangement of circumstances.”

Hosea 12:6  Oh, come back to God. Live by the principles of love and justice, and always be expecting much from him, your God.
